Its specialist spaces include gaming and virtual-reality studios, 3D-printing and rapid-prototyping facilities, physics and electronics laboratories, seminar rooms and flexible learning areas. Working alongside main contractor Speller Metcalfe, D&G Contracting completed the steel framing systems, internal partitions, ceiling systems and firestopping throughout the building.
The internal design is organised around a dramatic full-height central atrium, which connects the building’s different levels and creates a bright, open environment for learning and collaboration. Our partition and ceiling works required careful setting out around the atrium void, staircases, bridges and glazed balustrades to achieve the clean architectural finish demanded by the design.
The extensive partitioning package helped form the building’s laboratories, studios, teaching rooms, offices and circulation spaces. These systems provide the durability, acoustic separation and fire performance required within a busy higher-education facility containing a variety of specialist environments.
Our ceiling installations were coordinated with lighting, ventilation, fire detection and other building services across the development. Particular attention was given to the detailing within the atrium and shared learning areas, where the ceilings and internal linings make an important contribution to the building’s contemporary appearance.
D&G Contracting also completed the associated firestopping works, helping to maintain the integrity of fire-rated walls, floors and service penetrations throughout the four-storey structure.
The completed project demonstrates our ability to coordinate multiple specialist packages within a technically complex educational development and deliver high-quality finishes across both functional teaching spaces and prominent architectural areas.
